Lee Chandler, a solitary man in charge of the maintenance of some buildings at Boston, feels obliged to come back to their home village because his brother has dead leaving him responsible for the care of his 16-year-old nephew. Once there he will have to face a tragic past which moved him to split up with his wife and get away from the community where he was born and where he grew up.
