"If only it could always be this way," he said. "It's only ever a moment," she replied.
During five years, Laura Silleras has trudged the streets of her neighbourhood to design a photographic proposal which goes beyond the visual aspect and suggests a new way of approaching the reality of a quarter which is at the heart of public debate and endures the consequences of urban, political and social stresses. Inspired by a quote from The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, this sequence proposes a tour around El Cabanyal where the idea of time plays an essential role.

The following day will be time for talks and lectures given by experts in photography like María Bleda, Cristóbal Hara, Laura Silleras and Ángel Álvarez. All these talks are of open and free acces (until reaching auditorium full capacity) and will be held in the museum auditorium.

Concurrently, and within the exhibition period, the MuVIM will offer two kinds of guided visits related to Laura Silleras’ project. The first one will be around El Cabanyal, with an alternative guided visit, different from the traditional ones, which will move visitors to the reality that has inspired the exhibition "If only it could always be this way," he said [...]”. The other visit “From the reality to the museum” will be on Saturday mornings with a maximum of 25 people per group. Interested people should book a place in advance by calling at 963 883 730 or writing to informacio.muvim.es Transportation not included.
Guided visits to the exhibition in the museum will be on Saturdays (11 & 18h) and on Sundays (12.30h) along the month of May. The groups can be of 25 people maximum and interested people should book a place in advance by calling at 963 883 730 or writing to informacion.muvim.es. Both visits are free, open and fit for publics of all ages.
The workshop for children called “The colours of a neighbourhood. El Cabanyal” run by Acorquevols_animació and the induction course “Introduction to photography and report” conducted by Emilio Martí will complete the offer of complementary activities.
Laura Silleras (València, 1979) started as self-taught photographer more than ten years ago. While she was studying an Audiovisual Communication degree in the University of Valencia, she designed photographical projects she combined with her studies. In 2007 she went to Berlin and later to Mexico, with the aim of developing her photographical look and approaching documentary photography. In 2011 she moved to New York where she worked as assistant of Natan Dvir and Irina Rozowsky at the International Center of Photography (ICP).
In 2013 she moved back to Valencia to develop a documentary project about the Cabanyal neighbourhood where she lived when she was a child. In 2018 she was awarded with the Fragments Grant which has allowed her to publish her first book together with an exhibition in the MuVIM in March 2019.
