On the basis of the screening of images from different times and with different features, Cristóbal Hara will talk about his career path, his way of working and, more generally,  about the photographer’s profession. 

Biography:

1946. He was born in Madrid. His father belonged to a thriving Spanish family settled for generations in the the Philiphines. His mother was German and died short after his birth. His father got married a second time with an American woman.

1947-62. He spent his childhood in the Philippines, Germany, USA and Spain.

1963-69. He studied Law and Business Administration in Madrid, Hamburg and Munich.

1969. He decided to engage with photography.

1972-80. He lived in London where he collaborated with the agencies John Hillelson, in the British capital and in Viva, in Paris. His work was exhibited for the first time in the exhibition “Three Photographers” organised by the Victoria & Albert Museum of London.

1980. He changed his residence to Spain where he collaborated with the agency Cover in Madrid.

Until 1985, he worked exclusively in black and white and, since then, exclusively in colour.  

Cristóbal Hara's photographs had been published in magazines like Camera (Switzerland), Creative Camera, DU, Aperture, Photovisión, European Photographym as well as in the journals of El País, La Vanguardia and El Semanal.

His work is present in institutions like the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the Victoria & Albert  Museum of London.
