María Bleda (Castelló, 1969) and José María Rosa (Albacete, 1970) have established themselves as one of the most prominent models of Spanish contemporary photography. The main core of their work is the representation of the territory, through which they search to highlight the complex crossing of cultures which shape it. This way they turn the landscape genre into images with a high evocative power, images that, at the same time, express the photographers’ own experience on the spots they shoot. The settlement of time, the footprint and memory are intangible elements which define their works. Along compact and outstanding photographical series as “Football fields”, “Battlefields”, “Cities” and “Origin”, Bleda and Rosa have consolidated a proposal which registers the latent history dwelling in the spaces, a past they explore to boost our collective imagination and memory. Their career path has become more and more complex with the gradual inclusion in their works of a deep reflection about the construction of the photographical space and the connections between nature and culture.
